Home Remedies for Dealing with Anxiety

By: Darren Williger

Anxiety is not something which happens only to some unfortunate souls. It has struck us some time of the other. Starting from chronic and serious anxiety disorders, there are daily anxieties also, which does not spare any of us. So, is there any home remedy for relief from anxiety?

There are many simple things which we could do to get relief from anxiety, so long as it has not gained such proportions that it requires medical intervention. There are many home remedies which you could try to fight the menace called anxiety.

The first remedy you have in your hands which is readily available is to indulge in some physical activity. Physical exercises enhance the level of serotonin in your brains, which is one chemical which has everything to do with making us feel good. So to pump up your serotonin production, take on the tread mill, go for a long walk or take on your favorite sport, the moment you feel that a feeling of anxiety is taking control over your mind and body. When you focus your concentration on something else, you will start to feel good both mentally and physically.

The other option for combating anxiety is to take some dietary supplements. Some herbs particularly are good for soothing nerves and calming the brain. For instance, herbs like cloves, balm, chamomile, skullcap, orange blossom, valerian root, thyme, wood betony, catnip, hops, passa flora, lime flowers, lavender, and vervain are known for their beneficial properties for alleviating symptoms of anxiety and mental stress. Available in capsule or tea form these herbs are accessible at any health or grocery store or your local pharmacy. Of course, before starting on any of these herbs, check out whether they will interfere with any of the prescription medication that you are already having. Your doctor is the best person to consult regarding this issue.

The best home remedy to fight anxiety is perhaps open and frank communication with family and friends. There is nothing as sharing your problems or even simply chatting with some good friends to feel lighter and happier. The whole idea is to shift your attention from one negative issue to one that is happier and more positive. Children have amazing therapeutic value in times like this. Even a cup of coffee with a good friend or a relative can greatly uplift your mood. Watching cartoon films or even funny movies sometimes help in alleviating anxiety states.

Finally there are several other simple home remedies available which can help you combat anxiety and other stresses without having to take drugs or even visiting a doctor. A hot shower or a long and soothing bath can do wonders to a tired mind and can vastly change the way you look at things. Start doing something creative or something new to shift your attention from an old pain to something more positive and happy. In short, try and be friends with yourself first. Happiness and peace will follow soon. Remember anxiety is a natural phenomenon which occurs to every one – the trick is to dodge it with more positive feelings.
