Thanatophobia is the intense fear of death or dying. While some awareness of mortality is universal and healthy, thanatophobia involves excessive, intrusive, and debilitating anxiety about death that significantly impairs quality of life. It is closely associated with existential anxiety, health anxiety, and generalised anxiety disorder.
